DEFINITION
Agentic commerce — Commercial transactions in which an AI agent acts on behalf of a buyer: it searches for products, compares offers, builds the cart and completes the purchase, under the user's mandate and control.
In practice
The term took hold in 2025 with the first AI-assistant checkouts, then dedicated protocols (ACP in September 2025, UCP in January 2026). Three maturity levels: the agent advises, executes with validation, or buys autonomously within a set scope.
